things that have and have not happened since i last blogged

i moved

i did expense reports

i signed up for twitter

i cleaned my desk

i woke up twice to what i thought was the sound of imminent and massive destruction in my new apartment

i replaced my car battery

i cleaned out my car

i paid my old apartment MORE THAN FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS because i'm a giant klutz and stepped in a bucket of primer and spilled it all over the floor

twitter me timbers

i just signed up for twitter - mostly b/c i wanted to read something someone else had posted and didn't think i could without signing up, which i now think is not exactly the case. oh well.

it should go well considering the amount of effort, work and commitment i've put into the blog.

things that would make you think my next birthday was 7 and not 27

i love lucky charms... especially eating all of the marshmallows out of the box and throwing the rest away

i have hannah montana on my iphone

i can't swallow pills and need to chop them up and put them in food in order to get them down

i clean my room by stuffing everything in my closet

even after three years in pr, my favorite section of the newspaper is still the comics

thoughts about music

i'm watching saturday night live, and my morning jacket is the musical guest. they're really good, and i've heard about them for years but never bothered to check them out. i feel like opening the "independent music" door is like opening a door into a black hole because there's just sooo much stuff... some good, some not so much. so, instead, i listen to the stuff i know i like and count on the radio to let me know what's "new." super lame.

i've missed out on a lot that way, which is a shame, but i'm such an all-or-nothing kind of person, i know that as soon as i opened the door and decided to really get into non-mainstream music, i'd be lost forever.

also, i really love live music, but only in the right environment. why do you have to stand smashed against a thousand people in a too-loud, dark, sticky, disgusting bar, sweating and wiping spilled beer off of your arm in order to hear a decent band?

i'm just sayin'.

p.s. kenan thompson is terrible.

a warning to brittny gastineau and the girls from the hills

i had a dream last night that you all tried to open a restaurant together. it was, predictably, a disaster and i'm pretty sure i had to call the police. please don't open a restaruant together

a warning to sarah and brian

i had a dream on saturday night that we were having a joint wedding/birthday party - as in, my birthday, your wedding - at the clarion hotel. fancy, i know

anyway, there was this silver surfer-like character that was trying to screw things up and kept chasing us all around the hotel. it's cool though - we could walk through walls

i guess the warning is either don't get married in a clarion hotel or don't invite the silver surfer

to the person whose dog craps right next to my stairs

i know you're having him do it on purpose

also, $%^& you

help me decide on an apartment

option one

monthly rent: $1,095.00 this 6th floor unit will be available june 29, 2008. lease today and receive one month free on a 12 month lease. this classic soft loft features soaring ceilings with 7ft by 4ft arched windows that fold open. the beautiful berber carpeting throughout this home is simply stunning! the open floorplan will accommodate the largest of furniture, but is also great for the minimalist. this loft also features a galley kitchen decked with white ge appliances and full size washer/dryer connections. don’t miss this wonderful floorplan

pros:

1. one month free means i'll really only be paying a little over 1,000 a month, pretty much a steal in this area

2. open floorplan

3. relatively larger closet space

4. about the same size as my current place

5. about 100 steps from my office

cons:

1. can't see it until june 29

2. no clear demarcation between "bedroom" and "living room"

3. no balcony for the psycho cat

4. even with savings on gas, not as cheap as the other option

5. about 100 steps from my office

option two

monthly rent: $960.00 this 7th floor unit will be available july 15, 2008. a great 7th floor loft with balcony. this loft is a great open space, yet it can easily be separated to create a more intimate feel. the original structural column in the center of the room adds character and charm. enjoy the fresh air on your balcony that overlooks the atrium. you will enjoy the open vanity area, utility area and large closet space. this is a one of a kind at 1900 elm.

pros:

1. relatively inexpensive

2. balcony for psycho cat

3. more traditional cement loft flooring

4. about 100 steps from my office

cons:

1. considerably smaller than my current apartment and option one

2. unusual floor plan and "charming, character-giving structural column" kind of makes layout awkward

3. unclear on where exactly "large closet space" is

4. unclear on where exactly "balcony" is and what "atrium" is

5. not available to view until july 15

6. still just 100 steps from my office

a warning to erin

i had a dream last night that you were at a carnival and they had this "ride in a washing machine" ride. despite my protests, you got in and starting swishing around. we didn't see you come up for air for awhile, so i started banging on the side of the washing machine, telling you to stop playing around and get out. finally, we had to open up the machine and drag you out. we tried cpr and everything, but despite our best efforts, i'm pretty sure you died. so.... please don't get into any washing machines...

reasons i probably shouldn't have started a blog

1. i don't have time to write posts

2. i don't have anything to talk about

3. i believe in these things:

(it's samuel l. jackson in pulp fiction, pointing a gun and saying "say blogosphere again...")

(no one cares about your blog)

some things with which i have a complicated relationship

1. kids - like most of them, but don't like the ones who scream in restaurants, on planes our outside my window at 10 am on the weekends

2. alcohol - love it at the time, hate it the next morning

3. sleep - love sleeping, but don't like that i have to sleep and hate it when i can't (which is often)

4. my cats - they're annoying, but can also be real sweethearts

5. shoes and purses - love to buy them; hate to wear them and change them (respectively)

6. reality tv - there have been select seasons of a very select group of shows that i've enjoyed, but on the whole it's not my thing

some things i don't like

1. rude drivers

2. flakes

3. cheaters

4. cleaning out my cats' litter box

5. fakes

6. not having enough money

7. doing dishes

8. being bored

9. not being perfect (seriously, it bugs me)

10. capitalization

11. broken escalators

12. traffic

some things i like

1. blogging (so far)

2. tv - seinfeld (which i'm watching now, so that's why it's first), king of the hill (which is coming on next), csi, ally mcbeal, dexter, friends, sex and the city, er, will and grace, scrubs, lost, grey's anatomy, the office, the soup, desperate housewives, brothers and sisters, south park, boston legal, the practice, heroes, dirty sexy money, pushing daisies, private practice, the riches, living single, sabrina the teenage witch, news radio, jon & kate plus 8, how i met your mother, dirt, futurama, arrested development, the girls next door, family guy, big love, law and order: svu

3. chick-fil-a waffle fries and spicy dressing

4. tulips

5. blogs, web sites and other internet distractions - boingboing, icanhascheezburger, ihasahotdog, stuff white people like, cracked, amazon, cute overload, daily puppy, slate, mcsweeny's, the superest, pop candy, ask ausiello, watch with kristin, creed's blog, dwight's blog, barney's blog, margene's blog, ack-attack, erin's blog, brian's blog, the other brian's blog, perez hilton, facebook, and, apparently, blogspot

8. reading books - the awakening, the women's room, divine secrets of the ya ya sisterhood, little women, animal farm, anthem, 1984, the time traveler's wife... lots of others

9. being productive (weird, i know)

10. lists

11. diet dr. pepper

12. dogs

13. laughing

14. bitching (i find it theraputic)

reasons i may have started a blog

1. i feel compelled to discuss random, insigificant things, and i'm certain the people who would have to listen to it would... rather not, and the internet is the perfect place for dicussion of random, insignificant things

2. i work in a profession that requires a lot of writing, but i still despise writing (even though i'm actually not bad at it), so maybe doing it more often will make me hate it less (doubtful)

3. all the cool kids are doing it

hey look i started a blog

not sure why... or if i'll stick with it. i guess we'll see...
