thoughts about music

i'm watching saturday night live, and my morning jacket is the musical guest. they're really good, and i've heard about them for years but never bothered to check them out. i feel like opening the "independent music" door is like opening a door into a black hole because there's just sooo much stuff... some good, some not so much. so, instead, i listen to the stuff i know i like and count on the radio to let me know what's "new." super lame.

i've missed out on a lot that way, which is a shame, but i'm such an all-or-nothing kind of person, i know that as soon as i opened the door and decided to really get into non-mainstream music, i'd be lost forever.

also, i really love live music, but only in the right environment. why do you have to stand smashed against a thousand people in a too-loud, dark, sticky, disgusting bar, sweating and wiping spilled beer off of your arm in order to hear a decent band?

i'm just sayin'.

p.s. kenan thompson is terrible.
